Into the Still Blue by Veronica Rossi

GoodReads Summary: Their love and their leadership have been tested. Now it's time for Perry and Aria to unite the Dwellers and the Outsiders in one last desperate attempt to bring balance to their world.

The race to the Still Blue has reached a stalemate. Aria and Perry are determined to find this last safe-haven from the Aether storms before Sable and Hess do-and they are just as determined to stay together.

Meanwhile, time is running out to rescue Cinder, who was abducted by Hess and Sable for his unique abilities. And when Roar returns to camp, he is so furious with Perry that he won't even look at him, and Perry begins to feel like they have already lost.

Out of options, Perry and Aria assemble a team to mount an impossible rescue mission-because Cinder isn't just the key to unlocking the Still Blue and their only hope for survival, he's also their friend. And in a dying world, the bonds between people are what matter most.

**WARNING: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS A SPOILER FROM BOOK 2**

Expected publication date: 24/01/14

For me, it always bit nerve wrecking going into the final book in a series/trilogy, because I so badly want my  favourite characters to have the happy ending they deserve. When trying to rate Into the Still Blue I kept going back and forth between 4 and 5 stars, in the end, though, I settled for 4 stars. Why? Because although it was a good ending, it wasn't a particularly mind blowing one.

Perry and Roar are both grieving over Liv's death, but have different ways of dealing with it, and this ultimately creates a rift between them. Perry keeps his feelings bubbled up, because he's afraid that if he stops to think about it he won't be able to do his job as the tribe leader. Roar on the other hand has no qualms about letting out his frustration, anger and grief, and is annoyed that Perry won't even talk about. If there's one thing that Rossi excels at it's making her readers feel a whirl wind of emotions. I don't think I've ever been so attached to a set of characters before. I loved the interaction between them, and appreciated the fact that despite this being the final book in the trilogy they still continued to grow.

Aria and Roar have the best platonic relationship ever. I said this in my review of book 2, but it just has to be said again: I completely and truly admire Rossi for not going down the frustrating path of a love triangle. I want to see more boy/girl friendships like this one. They banter, they care about each other, and most of all they are just friends.

Overall, it was a satisfying end to the trilogy and I look forward to Rossi's future titles.

  1. Renu, I felt the same way! I loved the satisfaction that this novel brought, but it wasn't mind-blowing for me either. Still, there was so much emotional investment and I thoroughly enjoyed that. Great review!

  2. I had to skim your review since I have not read any of these books yet! Though I have it planned for January so I can read them one after the other :D

    Lovely review, Renu! <33

  3. I still haven't started this series but yeah you're right. Reading the last book in series is always tricky. Cause you want the series to have perfect ending especially if you love the characters. I'm glad that this one was somehow satisfying, too bad it wasn't mind-blowing. Great review Renu :)

  4. I need to hurry up and get to this, but I won't be able to until at least December x___x I'm glad to hear that it ended well, because there have been enough crappy series enders in my life to last a lifetime. I don't even care, I adore Roar and Aria together XD Yes, a love triangle would have been frustrating, and I am totally happy with a platonic relationship between them because they are awesome, but I wouldn't say no to Aria moving onto Roar. Because he's flawless :D

  5. I skimmed your review, as I've yet to read book one, but someone suggested I start this series today. Clearly it's a sign. Lovely thoughts, Renu :)

  6. Great review Renu. <3 I'm glad you loved it, though you didn't fully love it. I too thought it was awesome. I also like Roar and Aria's friendship :) Mostly because there are NO sign of a love triangle at all, lol :p Thank you for sharing. <3

  7. Ahhh! I can't read this review because I haven't read it yet but I see you gave it 4 stars and that makes me really happy! So excited to read this one. Hoping to get to it in November. :)

  8. I wholeheardetly agree with you about Roar and Aria's relationship—I absolutely LOVE that it's platonic and still so touching and close. A love triangle must have been tempting, but I'm glad Rossi steered clear of it. I'm thrilled to hear you loved this even if it didn't blow you away. Can't wait to read it! Lovely review :-)

  9. I'm both scared and excited for this one... I want so badly to see what will happen and how things are going to end, how Roar is dealing with Liv's death and etc, but at the same time, I want to make it last as much as possible. *sigh* It's great that you enjoyed it! I agree that the lack of a love-triangle is a smart move and the relationship between Aria and Roar is amazing!

  10. I loved book 1&2 and I have to wait a few months before my copy arrives in my mail box. I agree we need more girl / guy platonic relationships. Tnx for the review

  11. I just skimmed this review again, but I'm so happy to see you mention Roar and Aria's purely platonic relationship. It's one of my favourites in YA, and I really do just want to give Veronica Rossi a pat on the back for keeping it that way. I can't wait to get around to this soon! I'm glads you were happy overall, Renu. :)

  12. Aria and Roar's friendship is one of my favourite things about this series too. I've got this one for review and am trying to hold off reading this until December or so because I just don't want the trilogy to end!

  13. I'm not reading this review until I'm finished with mine, Renu. But I loved the ending of this series and that's a tough thing to accomplish with a series it seems! Nice to see your 4 stars. :)

  14. I skimmed because I haven't finished finished the second book yet but I did enjoy the first book. You are so right about Roar and Aria, I admit I was kinda rooting for a love triangle when I first saw how well they worked together but now I definitely agree they just should be friends.

  15. I skimmed your review since sadly I still have to read book one, although I do now own it..LOL I am glad the trilogy came to a satisfying end for you!

  17. EEEEP! So, so want to read this. And very glad that you are satisfied with it! I agree, Rossi does a wonderful job of keeping Roar and Aria's relationship strictly platonic. And she's great with emotions :) Love the review!

  18. Ahhh! I can't wait for this to come out =) I just skimmed the review, but I'm glad you liked the ending. These last books in a series always make me nervous.

  19. I am SO excited to read this one. I snagged an ARC from Edelweiss too but haven't had the chance to read it yet. So nervous/excited!! And you're so right - Roar and Aria are THE BEST platonic boy/girl relationship EVER. Why is this not a more prominent thing in YA??

  20. I skimmed your review because I intend on reading this series very soon. I am happy to hear thought that it ended well for you despite the love triangle! Have a terrific weekend, Renu.

  21. I still need to check out this series, but I am much more keen on it now that I know the ending was satisfying, if maybe not mindblowing. Nothing worse than committing to a series and being disappointed with the ending that you were waiting for. Thanks for the review! Really want to check this one out now.

  22. I have this one on my Kindle, and I am so excited to start it for the same reasons you listed explaining why you loved it. I loved how Roar and Aria have just a friendship relationship because boy-girl friendships totally happen in real life. Also the thing you said about Veronica being able to bring her readers through a ton of emotions is totally true.

Fantastic review! :) I'm so excited to start this book now!

  23. I loved their friendship as well and glad to hear it continues

  24. So excited to read this! Of course I need to read book 2 first, and I can't wait to do that. Roar was a stand out for me in book 1, and I love how you talk about his friendship with Aria in both this book and book 2. I couldn't agree more - I love that they're JUST friends, no romantic feelings of any kinds. *happy sigh*

  25. I finished this and I must admit I was slightly disappointed. Book 2 is by far my favorite. But still, this is such a spectacular trilogy and Rossi a fantastic author. And I agree about Aria and Roar's friendship, it's perhaps my favorite part of these books too.
